Some of the local attractions in Sleat near Camuscross and Isle Ornsay - heading west towards Tarskavaig and north towards Broadford
North west of Armadale, a single track road winds its way, hugging the coastline, to the scattered settlement of Tarskavaig, which has a little sandy beach looking out over to the "Small Isles", of the Hebridean islands. Further along the coast is the small village of Tokavaig, where a stony, seaweed beach overlooks the ruins of Dunscaith Castle and boasts superb views over the entire Cuillin range. This and the neighbouring village of Ord, with a pleasant sandy beach, are two of the best places on the whole of Skye from which to view the mountains in fine weather.
Within five minutes drive of Isle Ornsay heading north towards Broadford, is the Duisdale Country House Hotel, which is set in fabulous gardens. It has recently received special awards, and is fully refurbished to a very high standard, offering meals and a warm welcome.
There is a village post office in Duisdale, and a doctor's surgery in Sleat, within a ten minute drive.
A few minutes' drive further north is the well renowned Kinloch Lodge, owned by Lord and Lady Claire MacDonald, nestling in woodland overlooking the Sound of Sleat. It offers a high standard of cuisine, in their award winning restaurant, and a guaranteed heartfelt welcome awaits you on arrival.
The main village and most significant settlement in South Skye is Broadford. This, the island's second largest village, is only ten miles away. Its mile long main street curves around a wide bay where boat trips leave from its pier.
Broadford offers most major facilities; hospital, pharmacy, bank, library, supermarket, fuel station, launderette, bakery, hotels, restaurants, hairdressers, hand-spun wool, candle making and a church. Broadford is also home of the unusual Skye Serpentarium, full of snakes, lizards, frogs and tortoises, which offers a fascinating insight into the lives of these creatures.
